Week 5 done!

We're now done with week 5 of the 9 week Couch to 5k training ( http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml ) and I have to say I'm amazed at the progress we've made. Week 5 ended with the first sustained, no walking break, 20 minute run. I can not believe we both made it without walking. For the first time since starting, I can imagine myself running 5k.

the playlist for week 5's runs was:

  • Not The Only One: Bonnie Raitt
  • Don't Worry About The Government: Talking Heads
  • Sudden Impact!: Big Audio Dynamite
  • Will Anything Happen?: Blondie
  • This Must Be The Place: Talking Heads
  • 13th Street Blues: Roger Manning
  • Anchorage: Michelle Shocked

Nice. I need to start making

Nice. I need to start making running mixes. Your posts got me to try running with music -- I never used to because I really hate carrying things when I run. I definitely like it, but my little ogg player is not really loaded up with running music. MIA is kind of great for pacing, but I could use a little diversity.

try the layabouts

One of my favorite pseudo-punk bands from the late 80's/early 90s. I recently rediscovered them when I found that one of the band members uploaded all their tunes to the web for free. Some of their tunes are the perfect rhythm for running and the lyrics are wonderful

Nice. 45 minutes. Fuckalot

Nice. 45 minutes.

Fuckalot is great. Thin Ice was too, though it felt silly to be running steadily to "Get up on your feet an dance."

The Clash, Spanish Bombs turned out to be a kind of crazy sprint.

MIA Paper Planes makes me feel like Rocky.

David Byrne's One Fine Day and Everything that Happens Will Happen Today (I think both are on his Brian Eno Album, happy to send .oggs) both have an unexpectedly good rhythm, too.
